Damp but not Down
Saturday 30th June

The road into Villaviciosa was particularly memorable; almost sub tropical. A must do again route.

We had an below average paella at a nearby restaurant in Celorio, made only slightly memorable by watching a family celebrate someone’s 44 birthday. Significance lost on us I’m aftaid🤔
Quite a lot of rain in the night with intermittent peals of thunder. We woke to more rain & very damp, humid conditions. It was the first really wet morning we’d had, so it wasn’t surprising that mustering enthusiasm was difficult. It wasn’t helped by a rather miserable, surly woman serving desayuno in the cafeteria. Repeatedly burning & scraping the toast it seemed, only added to her woes. Some people really do need to be in a different job!
So, we left Camping Deva Gijón in drying conditions and made our way east along a quite beautiful section of the N-632. Rolling hills & valleys. Stunning views

We stopped in the town for coffee & snacks at a wonderful bakery. Then continued on the N-632, through the hills & valleys to Ribadesella
Not far on the map, but slow going due to the terrain. Enjoyable though. Kevin attempted a more taxing route (AS-260 to Arriondas), but aborted after a few miles due to weather & terrain & rejoined us in Ribadesella, just as we finished lunch.
We then pressed on along much flatter terrain towards Llanes, turning off at Balmori & to the Playa de Troenzo camp site between Barro & Celorio. Very big, very terraced & a little corporate, but a welcome sight nonetheless. Great view of the sea too;

Anyway, tent’s dried out a bit, so bedtime!
Thanks Andy - just caught up on your last week. Sounds brilliant.
